Today was a walk down memory lane. I was diagnosed with Celiac Disease, unofficially (DNA and all), about 20 years ago. Over the ensuing time, I’ve experimented with all things gluten free. As a result, I’ve developed a broad spectrum of recipes that are gluten and lactose free. Then, to complicate matters further, I was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes right after my colon cancer surgery. That fed into my previous diagnosis of IBS (Irritable Bowl Syndrome), polyps in my stomach and a hiatal hernia, all of which require special dietary considerations. Then came a list of food allergies so long it literally goes on for pages. Needless to say, I’ve become a foodie – thank goodness I love to cook!
Over the years I’ve developed a reputation for my ability to make great tasting meals. For some time now, my younger son has encouraged me to make a video series that reflects my ability to elevate gluten free cooking to food that is not only safe for Celiacs and gluten sensitive/intolerant people but tastes fantastic. Finally, the time has come. Over the next couple of weeks we’re going to launch a YouTube video series that features food for people who have special dietary needs. These sweet and savory recipes will focus on being gluten, lactose, corn, nut, seed, seafood/shellfish, and citrus/tropical fruit free. In addition, we will introduce food items that offer some low sugar/no sugar, high protein and low carb options that are also gluten and lactose free.
My writing today involved creating a list of topics for our upcoming YouTube video series. So far I’ve identified 23 different topics, some of which will require several episodes to cover. We’re going to call the series “G-G Cooks! – Traditional recipes for modern times". Primarily it will focus on all things gluten free, but it will also be mindful of the “S”s (singles and seniors) – people who are cooking for one. The G-G stands for Great Gramma, yes as young as I am, I already have 2 great grandchildren and am so excited to share that there’s a third on the way. I’ll be drawing on a lifetime of cooking plus all the recipes of my mother and my paternal grandmother who ran the kitchen at “The Old Mill” my grandparent’s lodge and cabins retreat in the Ontario Haliburton region.
So stay tuned! Over the next month we hope to release the first video and get things rolling. Naturally, the focus of my writing will move from fiction to non-fiction. However, I will continue to pitch my historical fantasy novel and my children’s picture books. It promises to be a very exciting chapter in our lives. Below you’ll find some pictures of both sweet and savory recipes we’ll be covering in the series.
Best wishes always…
P.S. Thank you for taking the time to visit my blog! My intention is to keep followers up to date on my latest writing adventures. My current focus is on fiction genres including children's picture books and YA/NA historical romanticies. I'm also preparing to write an epic fantasy for the young adult audience. As a debut author I face all the challenges of breaking into the traditional publishing market. I need your interest and support to do so! Please consider following me here and on other social media platforms, which you can access on the Home page of my author's web site. I'll be adding more in the weeks to come so please check back from time to time as I add non-fiction writing to my blog. Thank you so much, in advance, for following my blog. You are potentially helping me enrich the lives of future readers. I just need this break to attract my first agent representation! Your efforts will make all the difference! Thank you once again.
