Aug. 5, 2025 - Getting to Know You...

Today my focus is on Enneagrams – that system of assigning personality types. I’m going to use the 9 personality types and the triad system to create the characters in my epic fantasy. The idea is to pick one personality to be the primary traits of a character and then one from each of the other two remaining triads to add additional personality characteristic to give the person depth and complexity – 3D characters instead of one dimensional. At the moment I’m creating cards for each personality type so that when I go to create a character for the story I can easily try different combinations. It’s a lot of work, but something I can use for years as I write other novels. (Looking back on this blog I have to chuckle. I had NO idea just how complicated this system is! More about that another time.)

I also finished shading the picture I’ve drawn of Devaro. I’m really pleased with the way both he and Phildor have turned out. They’ll be excellent additions for my portfolio for the children’s picture books.

I enjoy being able to toggle back and forth between the drawing and the writing. It brings me a lot of pleasure. The rest of the day was spent working with my amazing housekeeper as we potted orchids, cleaned the frig, trimmed the dog’s ears and did general housekeeping.  It was a full day, but very productive.

here are some pictures of Devaro as he is evolving. The coloured one is from years ago. The one on the right is the newest version. You can now see his trousers. I'll be trying to create a colour palette for the new version. I've been thinking reds and oranges. What do you think?
