Twisted Coils

Life's twists
and turns
coil 'round
my spirit
like writhing
serpents...

Silently,
they glide
across
my path ...

too late,
I notice
the changes
inspired
by their
lethal
presence.

my flesh
burns
with
the poison
of their
betrayal ...

my fevered brow
aches
with
the dawning
comprehension
of life's realities...

forever wishing
for that
which eludes
me...

I dare not
look back
at
the blackened ash
of charred hopes
strewn
upon this
journey's
winding road.

the acid rain
of bitter tears
scorches
rivulets
across
my heart...

"Just once!"
my soul
screams
at the Universe,
"Let me find
the bliss
of a love
that's true...
one that gives
without
thought
of the cost...
one that lives
only to
fulfill
the joyful union...
one that
is bathed
with honesty
and purity!"

I hear
naught
but
the echo
of
mocking laughter
that answers
my petition
to
all there is...

with a
heavy heart,
I go on
wandering
forever...
with
a fading flicker
of hope
dancing across
the horizon
like
an aurora
of the
Northern skies
- ever elusive
and surreal.
